The optical performance of the SkyQuest XT4.5 is superb. The Newtonian reflector tube assembly features a big 4.5"(114mm) light-gathering mirror housed in an enameled steel tube. This mirror gathers 260% more starlight than the lens of a 60mm refractor. More light means you can see more celestial objects in greater detail. Think of it: in a given evening you could observe Saturns rings, survey the Moon's myriad craters, then study Jupiter's cloud bands and Jupiter's moons, then star-hop among the Milky Way's diverse star clusters and nebulas. And the XT4.5 is so easy to use. Its base features Teflon/Nylon bearing pads, so the scope glides smoothly with just a gentle nudge of the tube. The base provides outstanding stability, so the views are always steady.
