4. Bookshop Classics – Viewing and printing books.
Normally this program opens the classical documents with whatever word processing program you have on your computer. Sometimes, however, you need to tell the computer which program (e.g. MS Word, Word Perfect, etc.) to use.
Insert the Bookshop CD into the CD player (close any windows that might pop up), click on (My) Computer on your desktop or in your Start menu, right-click on the CD-ROM icon labeled "Simplymedia," left-click on "Explore," and then double-click on the "fscommand" folder where you'll see all of the book files located on your CD to the right side of the screen.
You should be able to see three files under each file name, each in a different file format. Depending on which "View" you have selected from the "View" menu, you may see a "peoplepc" folder on top, and then the file just below it is "1-1816(.DOC)." (You may not be able to see the .DOC extension if your computer is not set up to show file extensions.) Right-click on the "1-1816(.DOC)" file, and choose "Open With," and then slide your cursor over the arrow next to it, which will show you which word processing programs you have available to you. Click on "Choose Program," and click on Microsoft (Office) Word (if that is an option) to highlight it, then place a checkmark beside "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file," and click "OK." You may choose another word processing program if MS Word is not available.
Your Bookshop Classics program should now use Microsoft Word to open its books. Please note that all of the documents can be opened from the CD itself, as described above, but the file names do not always indicate which document you are opening.
