Finding Help or a Manual

There are a several easy ways to get more information about software programs. Some software publishers put a "Manual" or "Readme" document right in the Start menu, but they seldom tell you it's there. If you click on Start, then (All) Programs, then go to the folder that has your program in it, you may also see an icon and listing for a Manual.

The second way to find instructions is to look on the CD itself. First put your program CD in the CD-ROM player. Click on Start, then (My) Computer, then double-click on the CD-ROM icon, where you can see the files that are on the CD, and oftentimes the software publishers will have a folder or file here that says "Manual" or "Readme."

The last trick for finding help with your programs is within the program itself. Most programs offer a button or link to a Help file or Tutorial, or Demo - something that will demonstrate how to use the program. Also, try opening the program and hitting the F1 key on your keyboard - a lot of developers use the F1 key just for that purpose, to take you to "Help."
